Inclusive Entry Requirements

Swimming is for any age and RRSC offers a lifelong connection to swimming and the friendships and comaraderie of the sport.

We offer several entry pathways to the Club:

Masters (Adults)

Adults can enter through the Masters program.

At Masters level, swimmers will train in all four strokes and have training sets assigned by the Club based on your level.

You don’t need to be ‘race fit’ to join the Masters, but you do need the ability to swim all four strokes (front crawl, backstroke, breaststroke and butterfly).

Where possible, training will be tailored for any races / challenges you are preparing for and / or to rebuild your swim fitness.

Age Group Squads

Children with swimming experience can join straight into the Age Group Squads.

The Club will assess your child’s ability and place them in the appropriate squad ranging from Bronze to Platinum.

Bronze squad is the entry-level squad in the Club’s competitive pathway, where at a minimum swimmers need to swim at least 150m front crawl and backstroke and be able to swim all four strokes to a development / basic standard at about age 7-11.

If your child cannot yet meet these requirements, they can join through the Academy pathway which will prepare them for squad entry.

 Academy

Children with less swimming experience can enter through our Academy system which prepares swimmers for entry into the competitive squads.

RRSC runs both an Academy and a (new) Pre-Academy – both of which focus on building endurance / distance and improving technique of all strokes.

Entry to Academy requires swimmers to be comfortable swimming 50m front crawl and backstroke. Their next progression is to Bronze Squad.

Entry to Pre-Academy requires swimmers to swim at least 20-25m front crawl and backstroke and be confident swimming in the deep end of the pool. Their next progression is to Academy.

Children must be at least 6 years old to join through the Academy / Pre-Academy pathway.

Where do we train?

Our main pool is at Donyngs Leisure Centre in Redhill but we also train at pools in Horley, Reigate, Caterham and Crawley.

Swimming Competitions / Events

There are different types of swimming competitions your swimmer may be eligible to enter, including Club galas, including Club Championships

  1. Interclub galas, including league competitions
  2. Open Meets
  3. County/Regional Championships

For a better understanding of the different types of swimming competitions please read our Rough Guide to Swimming Competitions.

Training Schedule and Squad Structure

The club operates a squad structure and training sessions are held 6 days of the week depending on the squad. The squad each swimmer is allocated to is decided by the coaches and depends on the ability and commitment of the swimmer. This is reviewed on a regular basis and swimmers are moved between squads as appropriate. The higher squads are offered more training time in the water than the junior squads and this is reflected in the club’s monthly squad fees.

For further information please see the Squad Training Schedule.
